Smoking Area at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

Zero Indoor Smoking Policy: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) maintains a comprehensive no-smoking policy across all indoor areas of Terminals 3 and 4, including concourses, gates, dining zones, restrooms, and lounges, in accordance with Arizona’s Smoke-Free Arizona Act (effective May 1, 2007). This ban prohibits cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and all tobacco products to ensure a healthy environment for travelers.

Dedicated Outdoor Smoking Areas:

Smoking is permitted in 15 designated outdoor zones, pre-security, on Level 1 (arrivals) of Terminals 3 and 4, at least 20 feet from entrances:

Four areas on the east, west, north, and south sides, accessible from 25 gates.

Terminal 4: Eleven areas, including south outer curb (near Doors 2, 6, 8), north outer curb (near Door 1), and other east/west/north/south spots.
These zones are marked with signage, equipped with ashtrays, and free to use.

No Airside or Indoor Lounges: PHX offers no indoor smoking facilities or post-security smoking areas. All lounges, including American Airlines Admirals Club, Delta Sky Club, and The Centurion Lounge, are smoke-free.

Re-Entry Process: Smokers must exit to outdoor zones and re-enter via TSA screening (15–30 minutes during peak times). International passengers must clear customs first, adding time.

Compliance and Fines: Smoking in non-designated areas or within 20 feet of entrances violates Arizona law, risking fines. Use ashtrays to avoid littering penalties.
